East Midlands Airport Information
East Midlands Airport is one of the largest in the U.K. It lies close to Derby (8 miles), Nottingham and Leicester (within 20 miles) and serves the counties of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire (including Stoke, Stafford and Newcastle-under-Lyme), Derbyshire and South Yorkshire. It is the second largest air freight hub in Britain.
Low cost carriers contributed a great deal of growth to East Midlands Airport. Some of those based at the airport now include Monarch, Flybe, Jet2 and Ryanair. Carriers fly from East Midlands to destinations across Europe, as well as to the Americas in season.
East Midlands Airport is more dependent on taxi transfers than some other U.K. airports. The nearest rail station is 4 miles away and there is no shuttle bus to it. Taxis are available to get there though, and are cheaper when booked in advance. There is a bus service to local cities, leaving every 30 minutes during the day.
