Gatwick Airport by taxi
There are several ways to get to Gatwick Airport but two are generally considered to be the most popular – travel by taxi to Gatwick Airport or travel on the Gatwick Express.
Gatwick Express
This is a non-stop service from Victoria Station to the airport. It runs every 15 minutes although it’s wise to check the Gatwick Express website as the current status is that:
until 5 May 2013 there will only be a Sunday service every 30 minutes. The standard journey time is 30 minutes, or 35 minutes on Sunday.
The building of the new platform 7 is likely to involve significant construction work around the station causing delays which may need to be factored into journey times. This work is expected to take a year.
Gatwick Express Costs
A single Anytime ticket costs £19.90 or £17.75 online, a return costs £34.90 or £31.05 online while a Web Duo (two adults) costs £69.80 or £51.65 online. An Anytime Day Return is £26.50 (£23.60 online).
First class singles are £29.00 or £25.80 online and returns are £56.00 (no online price) whilst a first class Off Peak Day Return is £33.70 or £30.00 (online). This would result in a cost of around £79.60 for four people, travelling from Victoria to Gatwick, or about £120 return.
It’s important to check the ticket restrictions carefully as there are restrictions on the hours and days of travel, and finally there’s the cost of your onward journey from Victoria Station to your final destination to factor in.
Gatwick Airport Taxi
A taxi to Gatwick Airport from London, for up to four people, can cost as little as £50.00. With the convenience of a door to door service, plenty of luggage space and one less departure deadline to worry about, this represents good value.
Avoiding the additional cost of a taxi to Victoria Station that accompanies a Gatwick Express ticket, is another cost saving to consider, while the convenience of being collected from your own home can get a holiday, or business travel off to a smoother, calmer, happier start.
It’s easy to book a cab online with ubiCabs, and you even get to choose the kind of taxi that comes and picks you up, whether it’s a saloon or an MPV or anything in between, giving you every option to travel comfortably and arrive in style. The great thing about a cab is that it meets you when you want to be met and takes you where you want to go, there’s no hanging around on station platforms for a train to arrive and no fighting with crowds when it does. You can also get a hand with the luggage, which is never a bad thing.
